And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Cor 12:9
Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. Phil 4:11
Dear Friends,
So aware of this truth this week: Life is so hard for many right now, but Jesus is SO enough for everyone, if they would let Him be. Life is hard for many of you right now. Is Jesus enough? Are you letting Him help you His way, not yours? I remember the Lord confronted me after I had been a pastor for 27 years and as He was just launching Come Rest 20 years ago. I was on my face in the grass at a citywide worship gathering in a park. I heard Him say, “I am not enough for you.” I was deeply convicted. I knew, on my face in the grass deep in my heart, that He knew I wanted those things I wanted in life and ministry how I wanted them when I wanted them. He was not enough. I repented and turned back full to Him.
There are times since then He reminds me of that encounter, when I really need it. When you really need it. One of those times is right now. Rest content in your CONTENT. It’s a mystery, but oh so sure. Jesus lives in your heart. Paul learned over the years of ups and downs that Jesus was enough. I’m still learning this. So are you. I may not have yet come as far as Paul, but the Lord has grown me far more content in Him than I was 20 years ago, 47 years ago, whatever point I might consider in the past. I suspect the same is true for you if you stop and reflect.
Yes, life may be hard. Yes, you may still stumble or struggle. But you are more loved by Him than you know; more secure in that love than you may feel; AND more like Him than you used to be. There are many things that used to trouble “younger you” that “older you” now lets quickly roll off your back. He has grown you. He has you. Be had. As you and I choose to rest content in Him(Phil 4:1-13), He will choose to use us to lighten others’ load or illuminate their path or ignite fresh hope. Then they too, may join us in persevering and shining in Jesus as our First Love(Rev 2:1-7).

I have memorized the first three of my 12 passages in the Sword of the Spirit Challenge. Psalm 63; Rev 2:1-7; Phil 4:4-13. It was SO GOOD to have memorized these three before we began fighting off a virus two weeks ago. Thanks for your prayers! While I was not feeling well, the most powerful thing I could do was pray out loud those three passages. The Holy Spirit took over and kept me going and recovering! What peace and strength in my weakness. Please pray for Kim and me in this. We are praying for you! As an overseer of this ministry, for accountability and prayer support, here’s my list of 12. (Ps 63, Phil 4:4-13; Rev 2 & 3; Ps 27; Matt 6; Col 3; Isaiah 58; 1 Cor 13; Eph 3; John 14 & 15; Romans 8; Matt 11:25-30)

“The Sword of the Spirit Homework Challenge” spreads! Thanks to those who are already sharing it personally and on social media! If you have begun, send us a two sentence testimony of what the Lord is doing with you and we will share it! Someone recently said, “I’m sorry, I know this challenge has been going a month, but I’m just waking up to it. I’m so behind.” My response was, “Be at peace, that’s the beautiful thing about this. You’re not behind at all. Your 6 months doesn’t begin until you do!” 😊 He is graciously handing us all His plan for following CLOSE BEHIND HIM on a silver platter—for the next six months—for the rest of our lives! Come Rest, indeed. Below is our video on the challenge! He’ll help you begin when you’re ready, and so will we! Kim and I will keep you posted on our progress!
A Word of Counsel heard from Him 4/7/26. We continue to submit it to all the friends of Come Rest. “Listen to Me. Really listen. Shut out the noise. Tune in to Me. Prepare. Make a list of your 12 favorite scripture passages from over the years between you and Me. Do the work. Make the list. Memorize them over the next six months. Work My words into your prayers and your witness each new day I give you. I will help you. You will become a deeper listener, prayer intercessor, and doer of My word. Are you up to it? I am! I repeat–Listen to Me. Prepare. Do the work. I will help you. It will be worth it. My joy and peace will overflow, no matter what. Those around you will begin to listen, too. I love you so.” (Is 55; Ps 34; John 10 & 15) OUR VIDEO! The Sword of the Spirit Homework Challenge just passed 1,400 views! @ https://youtu.be/uAdA3lrNSHk
