Fixing our eyes on Jesus… who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Heb 12:2
We live in a neighborhood around a beautiful wooded ravine. Last week, with spring weather coming so soon, we sat on the far end of our deck, which looks to the left out upon two neighbors’ back yards. Kim, who is usually my inspiration to gaze upon the birds and trees, found herself distracted by the neighbors’ back sheds with damaged rooves in prolonged disrepair. She said “Those sheds are getting worse.” The fact that no one was fixing them, had become a distraction. I said, “Kim, just look away to your right.” She immediately looked to the other end of our deck where her cardinals, goldfinches, nuthatches, and woodpeckers were flitting and feeding. She sighed, “Oh yes!” We both giggled and agreed, “That’ll preach!”
Yes, the world is a car wreck. Stop staring at it. Turn your eyes upon Jesus. He is risen, indeed! Don’t stick your head in a hole in the ground, just tuck in under His wing. He is returning soon. How soon? Just soon enough.
Until then, it’s never too soon to pray and live what we at Come Rest call “the Kim Speight prayer.” The Holy Spirit has led Kim to pray and teach this with great results over the last several years. I am her most grateful pupil. Praying this way helps an old recovering striver like me, come rest on His chest every time. Try it. Trust Him. “Jesus fix it! In the meantime, help me fix my eyes on You!”
